I knew Rod & his family when I was 17 yrs old.His family were very kind to me.We went our separate ways & Rod met the love of his life & soulmate Lavern.I married & lived in N.Y..We became facebook friends & he told me about his family & the love he had for them.He was a very kind man & so smart. He always told me how healthy he was, that is why I was so shocked at his death. His grandchildren were his treasures. I was happy to know he did see the world & enjoyed every minute of his life.I pray for his family as they try to cope with this huge loss.Janice Feise Mizrahi

Rod and I were born 1 month apart in Campbell Calif next door to each other. He has been like a brother to me all my life. I could write a book of the memories I have just in the first 18 years of our lives. Going to the San Jose Bees baseball game and yelling "Hee baa" "Hee Baa" me calling him ship to shore when he was on the USS Enterprise after I had a few glasses of wine and having the Captain wake him up that another ship was calling for him....nothing but great memories, his wonderful family including his momma and dad, his brothers, his children and grandchildren...when ever I visited I was treated like royalty...I could go on forever, a part of me is missing without Rod, I know he and my son will find each other in heaven until I join them and we can all talk about our memories together. Thank you Rod for all the years of friendship. I love you, Mel

I am so sorry to hear of Rod's passing. I remember him as a very good person when I worked for him at Douglas Foods. He loved his family so much and was very proud of all of his children. I saw him years after we left Douglas Foods when he had the brokerage firm and he had some very kind, complimentary words for me. May God bless your family.Mary Smith Sizemore

To the Martin Family - I am so sorry for the passing of this fine man. I never actually knew Mr. Martin personally. However, I remember him from the early 70s. I was an employee at Elmore's. He came in every Christmas and bought for his children. He was a very pleasant man at the time and I feel sure he never changed. I know that God will wrap each of you in his arms and comfort you. May it ease your pain to know that others do care.Deborah Boyd

Rod was so much bigger in life than almost anyone I have known. He had a bigger heart, a bigger sense of Christian duty, a bigger love for his family and friends and a bigger sense of humor. Rod and I text messaged and emailed back and forth more than once a day for about 10 years on a wide range of subjects, and I always appreciated his insight and good humor. Our last message exchanges were a few hours before he was transported to Mayo JAX. I miss him so much and consider myself so fortune to have had Rod as a friend for all these years. I want to express my condolences to Rod's family on their loss of such a giant force in their lives. Rod loved his family so dearly and they loved him so dearly. Rod is an inspiration to all of us on how we can live more meaningful lives. It is natural for family and friends to mourn his death. At the same time we must honor his life for what he has taught us. In a sense Rod is not gone for he will live forever in our memories. The Lord has called him home to a better place.
