George Wendell Sears, age 91, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020, at his residence. Mr. Sears was born on September 4, 1928, in Douglas, GA, to the late George Washington Sears and Alice Estelle Davis Sears.
Survivors include: Wife of 70 years, Jeannine Brice Sears of Douglas, GA; Son, George W. (Tina) Sears, Jr. of Savannah, GA; Daughter, Carol S. (Tim) Sawyer of Douglas, GA; Daughter, Karen S. ( Jerry) Peele of Eastman, GA; Granddaughter, Elizabeth Jeannine "Beth" Sears (Norm) Hall; Grandson, George Wendell “Bucky” (Laura) Sears, III; Grandson, Andrew Garrette (Kathryn) Sawyer; Granddaughter, Annalyn Peele (Jim) Tocci; Granddaughter, Jennie Sawyer (Bradley) Murphy; Grandson, Mark Aaron Sawyer; Granddaughter, Kristen Peele (Jordan) Jones; Granddaughter, Kellie Peele (Daniel) Moore; Great-granddaughter, Madeline Christine Sears; Great-grandson, Samuel Edward Sears; Great-grandson, Jonathan Garrett Sawyer; Great-grandson, David Patrick Sawyer; Great-granddaughter, Annabella Rose Tocci; Great-granddaughter, Lydia Ruth Jones; Great-grandson, Baby Boy Murphy; Great-granddaughter, Baby Girl Moore; Niece, Rue Meeks Player; Niece, Linda Meeks (Harold) Abbott.
Preceded in death by his sister, Dessie Mae (Sears) Meeks.
Wendell’s employment included Principal of Satilla School, Director of Urban Renewal, and was a real estate appraiser. He loved people and loved serving the Lord Jesus Christ in many capacities at First Baptist Church. Hobbies included spending time at Coffee County Fishing Club. Woodworking was also a favorite pastime as many of his projects are displayed in homes throughout the community and beyond. As an entrepreneur, he designed and manufactured Golden Isles Travel Trailers, managed real estate and farms, and served as an influential leader in Douglas and Coffee County. Most important, his life was portrayed as a loving husband, father, faithful Christian witness, and humble servant of the Lord, truly a Micah 6:8 man.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the many caregivers who loved and served in his home, and to Bethany Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at 11:00 am at Douglas City Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Peele officiating.
