Dr. Diskin Morgan, Sr. was born and reared in Douglas the son of Perry and Alma Morgan. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1946.  After attending South Georgia College , he majored in Chemistry at the University of Georgia. His calling into the medical field took him to The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. In 1954, while at the Macon Hospital during his residency, he fell for a beautiful lab technician named Dorothy Phares.  Within six weeks she became his wife, they soon started their family. They were blessed with two sons, Gil and Guy and one daughter, Lynn.

For two years he served in the United States Army as a medical doctor. After his military service he returned home to Coffee County, the community he so loved. He practiced family medicine until 1966 when he returned to Augusta for a surgery residency. Then he returned to Coffee County to minister through medicine and his faith to thousands of patients.

Dr. Morgan was blessed with good health and a sound mind to practice medicine until his 80th year. He was very active in the Christian community singing in the choir, quartets, and solos. A Deacon and choir member at First Baptist Church. For many years he served in the Rotary Club of Douglas. He was an active Gideon and supported this vital ministry. His integrity, wisdom, and faith offered wise counsel to many.  He touched many lives beyond his immediate family and friends. His strong faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord was a daily walk for him. He was a “fisher of men” and an avid fisherman. His favorite place to be was in a boat on the Satilla River.

After the death of his first wife, Dottie, he was blessed to share his remaining years with his wife, Lounell Burton Morgan. They had a fulfilling life visiting and ministering to other senior citizens and the sick. She added a vibrance to his life and was a wonderful caregiver.

His children and family were so blessed to have this extraordinary man for so many years. We will cherish the years and precious memories.

Due to Covid 19 a private family service will be held, however the service will be streamed on the First Baptist Church website beginning Sunday, August 30th.  Dr. Morgan’s desire was for the Word of God to be known to all humanity. In lieu of flowers, please make any remembrance as a donation for the purchase of Bibles to Gideon International, 4354 Hwy 32 East, Nicholls, GA 31554.
