Curtis Allen Summerlin, 72, of Douglas, GA, son of Lucious Gardell and Martha Magdalena Summerlin, left this world on February, 1st at Coffee Regional Medical Center due to complications from pneumonia. Curtis Summerlin was born on February 22nd, 1948 in Douglas, GA. He spent his childhood in Broxton running a paper route before attending grade school and spending his afternoons plotting innocent shenanigans with his older brothers, David and Tommy. He graduated from Broxton High School while lettering in basketball and eventually moving onto the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!!!) where he earned a degree in finance while also serving as President of the Theta Chi Fraternity, UGA chapter. Soon after, he started a successful banking career in Atlanta while making memories with his friends in Inman Park while residing at “Chitlin Flats”. In his late 20s, he moved back to Douglas and took over as President of the Broxton State Bank. Curtis helped build the foundation of Douglas; as an active member of the Chamber of Commerce he helped Douglas grow and prosper into the wonderful town we all know and love today. He served as president of the Douglas Golf and Country Club and oversaw the design/construction of making the course an 18 hole layout. He was a well-respected business man, witty story teller, a loyal friend, and a loving father. Curtis Summerlin will forever be missed. Rest easy Daddy…we love you.
Curtis is preceded by his father, Lucious Summerlin, mother, Martha Summerlin, brother, Thomas Summerlin, and a grandson, Walker Barnes.
