Vermelle Atkinson, age 87, of Valdosta, Georgia (formerly of Douglas, GA) passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Fellowship Home, Valdosta, Georgia. Mrs. Atkinson was born on October 5, 1933 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Willie Clifton & Dovie Snipes Thomas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar “Bobby” Atkinson, 3 brothers, W.C., Jimmy Lee and, Grady Thomas and 2 sisters, Bernice Waters and, Geneva Yarberry Newsom.
Mrs. Atkinson retired as a Dietician with the Coffee County School System and was a member College Avenue Baptist Church, Douglas, Georgia.
Survivors include son, Terry Lamar Atkinson of West Green, GA; daughter, Rhenda Faye Parker (Richard Rex) of Valdosta, GA; brother, Dan Thomas (Linda) of Millwood, GA; 4 grandchildren, Rheanna Sewell of Statesboro, GA, Jessica Miller of Statesboro, GA, Rhett Parker of Tampa, FL and, Reis Parker of Valdosta, GA; 2 great grandchildren, Harrison Miller and, Reed Sewell; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Douglas City Cemetery with Rev. Paul Womack officiating. Pallbearers will be Thomas Reis Parker, Richard Rhett Parker, Robby Sewell, Joey Thomas, Chad Thomas and, Kevin Thomas.
