Mr. Ronald Merritt, 79 of Ambrose, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Merritt was born in Coffee County on March 15, 1943 to the late John Lensey Merritt, Sr. and Louise Batten Merritt. He was preceded in death by brothers: Stanford Merritt, Rexford Merritt and John L. Merritt, Jr., Sisters: Julia Faye Garrett, Myrtle Merritt and Carolyn Rollins, Niece: Donna Boltz, Five Nephews: Gregory and Shannon Sayer, Wesley and Lamar Merritt and Edsel Carver
After graduating from Broxton High School, Mr. Merritt began farming with his father in Coffee County. Later, he farmed in Coffee and Irwin County. He was the chairman of the Coffee County Peanut Producers Association. Two-time Money Maker Peanut Award Winner, 200 Plus Bushel Corn Award Winner, Member of the Hampshire & Yorkshire Swine Producers Association and Georgia Pork Producers Association. He held the record for the highest weight gain for a boar hog at the Tifton Experiment Station, Coffee Co. Cattleman’s Association and Young Farmers Association. He was a Master Tree Farmer award recipient. He was also a CCA School board trustee member. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed sharing these interests with close friend, Danny Patton and other friends.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: June Sayer Merritt, Son: Trevor and Lisa Merritt, Beloved Granddaughter: Darby, of Locust Grove, GA, and a Sister: Marie Carver of Douglas. He was a member of Bethany Holiness Baptist Church. Mr. Merritt was a former deacon, treasurer and cemetery committee member.
A Graveside Funeral service will be held on Saturday November 5, 2022 at 4PM at Bethany Cemetery with Rev. Brad Fuller. Music, “Peace in the Valley” will be provided by Randall Smith and Janna Hutto, and “He does all things well” by his wife June (Ronald’s request). Pallbearers will be: Lee Sayer, Marc Sayer, Dalton Odom, Calan Harper, Autrey Merritt, and Rex Hill.
