Margaret Batten Gillespie, age 97, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at her residence. Mrs. Gillespie was born on January 15, 1923 in Polk County, Florida the daughter of the late Leon Batten and the late Cora Douglas Batten.
Mrs. Gillespie was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God, Douglas, GA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Gillespie, two sisters, Wilma Shiver and Pauline Ward and a brother, Nerle Batten.
Survivors include her sister, Merline Minix (James) of Douglas, GA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 3, 2020 from 6pm until 9pm at Sims Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 11:00am at First Assembly of God with Rev. Marshall Adcock and Rev. Byron Griffis officiating. Interment will follow at Royals Cemetery. Mrs. Gillespie will lay-in-state from 10am until 11am prior to the service.
Musical selections will be congregational songs, “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” and “Amazing Grace”. Becky Taylor, pianist, will play throughout the service.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Vaughn, Zachary Vaughn, Patrick Spivey, Keith Moore, Russell Batten and David Batten. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class.
Memorials may be made to, St. Jude’s Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
