Jackie Lastinger Wilson, age 82, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Tuesday August 6, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Wilson was born on June 14, 1937 in Atkinson County, Georgia the daughter of the late Seaborn Bunyon Lastinger and Florence Lanell Smith Lastinger.
Jackie began working as a secretary for the City of Douglas in 1962 and her career spanned for over 47 years. She served in several roles such as the Director of Urban Renewal, Director of Community Development, Assistant City Manager, City Manager, and Mayor. Jackie was appointed by the Governor of Georgia to serve on multiple boards and she received numerous awards such as the Liberty Bell, Lifetime Achievement Award, and the key to her city. She was an advocate for her community, a mentor to many individuals, and was the inspiration behind the Jackie Wilson Women in Leadership Award. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Arthur Wilson.
Survivors include two daughters, Belinda Harrell of Douglas, GA and Charla W. Curtis (husband Dwayne) of Jacksonville, FL; son, Chuck Wilson (wife Adina) of Axson, GA; two sisters, Tommie Dukes (husband Carroll) of Bogart, GA and Jan Lastinger of Douglas, GA; two brothers, Sammy Lastinger (wife Mary) of Douglas, GA and Danny Lastinger (wife Rose) of Perry, FL; six grandchildren, Courtney Sheffield (husband Chris), Whitney Wilson, Caroline Wilson, Jacklyn Wilson, Kayleigh Curtis and Colby Curtis; four great grandchildren, Everly Sheffield, Isla Sheffield, Willa Sheffield, Rowan Sheffield; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 10, 2019 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson, Rev. Chris Sheffield and Rev. Don Hattaway officiating. Interment will follow at Satilla Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6pm until 9pm at First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Domenic LaRiccia, Seab Lastinger, Tom Gibson, Troy Gibson, Randy Smith, Robbie Lastinger, Rodney Lastinger, Jim Dukes, Wesley Wilson and Jimmy Wilson;
