Barbara Sue Dedmond, age 87, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Dedmond was born on February 11, 1934 in Athens, Tennessee the daughter of the late Charles Willard and Martha Gladys Powell Knox.
A member of First Presbyterian Church in Douglas, she spent most of her life as a homemaker raising her four children. In 1981, she started working with Belk in Douglas where she met and befriended many people. She retired from there after 25 years of service. She was well known in Coffee County and Douglas and was loved by many for her dedication to her church, her family, and her friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Dedmond, her parents, and a brother, Jimmy Davis Knox.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Lisa Dedmond Tierney (Steve) of Broxton, GA, Cindy Dedmond Johnson (Carl) of Alexandria, VA and, Beth Dedmond (Bill Smith) of Douglas, GA; son, Jim Dedmond (Theresa) of Douglas, GA; her grandchildren, Catie Tierney of Colorado Springs, CO, Rachel Silverstein (Wes) of Los Angeles, CA, Keegan Dedmond (Jordyn) of Broxton; 4 step-grandchildren, Debbie Spears (Todd) of Versailles, KY, Jeff Tierney (Jacquie) of Fort Myers, FL, Blake Smith (Drew) and Melissa Smith (Trevor) of Douglas; she is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Natalee and Jackie Dedmond, and 10 step great-grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, and Grayson Spears, Amanda Tierney, Olivia Merritt and River Smith, Abree and Blakely Smith, and Hunter Merritt and Beau Smith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Douglas, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Knowles officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Blake Smith, Bob Setser, Eric Nwawel, Keegan Dedmond and, Todd Spears.
