Sharon Powell McKinnon, age 59, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Wednesday September 19, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. McKinnon was born on April 27, 1959 in Douglas, Georgia the daughter of the late June Talley Powell and Millie Jane Stapleton Powell.
Mrs. McKinnon worked as a Dredge Boat Operator with Choo Choo Dredging and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her parents, June and Millie Powell, sister, Tammy McDaniel and three brothers, Johnny Powell, Arter Powell and Charlie Powell.
Survivors include her husband, George Russell McKinnon Sr. of Douglas, GA; daughter, Christy McKinnon Spikes (Craig) of Hazlehurst, GA; son, George Russell McKinnon Jr. (Melissa) of Douglas, GA; sister, Louise Burkett of Douglas, GA; brother, Dennis June Powell of Douglas, GA; five grandchildren, Devin Spikes (Christy), Zachary McKinnon (Laney), Trevor Spikes, Johnny McKinnon and Ethan McKinnon; two great grandchildren, Ryder Spikes and Navie McKinnon;
Funeral services will be Saturday September 22, 2018 at 11:00am at Sims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at New Hope Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9:00pm at Sims Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Devin Spikes, Zachary McKinnon, Trevor Spikes, Johnny McKinnon, Ethan McKinnon and Tommy Harper. Music was provided by CD, “Amazing Grace”, “Precious Memories” and “Grandma’s Song” and “When I Get Where I’m Going” at the graveside.
