Mary Frances Vickers Wilkes, age 84, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Saturday September 15, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Wilkes was born on April 18, 1934 in Douglas, Georgia the daughter to the late Harvey Vickers, Sr and Vivian Davis Vickers.
Mrs. Wilkes was the former Social Editor for the Douglas Enterprise; Author of “Three Shades Lace” published in 1970 and was a member of Carver Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Adelyn Marie Wilkes and a brother, Harvey Vickers, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Jack Martin " Marty" Wilkes and wife Karen of Marietta, GA; three grandchildren, Rev. Andrew Martin Wilkes and wife Kristy of Georgetown, S.C., Kaleb Aaron Wilkes and wife Jordan of Marietta, GA and Kaley June Tanner and husband Jameson of Canton, GA; three great grandchildren, Harper Marie Wilkes, Barrett Andrew Wilkes and Olsen Phillip Tanner; sister, Lataine Vickers Smith of Douglas, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 11:00am at Carver Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Martin Wilkes officiating. Rev. Larry Stone will be officiating the graveside service. Interment will follow in the Carver Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9:00pm at Sims Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jameson Tanner, John Brantley, Kaleb Wilkes, Mark Grantham, McKinley Musgrove, Dylan Ellis and Justin Peterson. Music will be provided by Sonja Hattaway and Kaley June Tanner singing "Amazing Grace" and Gregory Pope sang "Blessed Assurance" with Jay Beverly on piano. Jay Beverly played prelude and postlude music.
