Augustus Emory Markette

Augustus Emory Markette, Jr. 85, of Ambrose, was deceased on July 2, 2018.  He was born in Coffee County, GA on July 24, 1932 to Augustus Emory, Sr. and Susie Vickers Markette.   He graduated from Douglas High School in 1949.  After attending South Georgia College he transferred to Georgia Institute of Technology where he obtained a B.A. in Industrial Management and was enrolled in the Air Force R.O.T.C. Program.  He graduated in 1954. 

Mr. Markette married Hilda Mizell on October 6, 1954.  Shortly after Mr. Markette reported for duty with the U.S. Air Force and obtained his dream of becoming a pilot.  His first assignment was to be a flight instructor teaching others how to fly jets.  He served in many duties and was stationed at many bases, including the foreign duty stations of Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Turkey.  His last three years he flew military cargo into Vietnam.  After 14 years in the Air Force he left in 1968 with the rank of Captain to return to Douglas, GA,  where he obtained a job at Fleetwood Mobile Homes in their management training program.  Later, he worked at Catalina Mobile Homes, and then Design Space Incorporated where he served as Cost Control Manager, Architect, and Quality Control Manager.  He also served as corporate pilot for Catalina Mobile Homes.  He retired in 1994. 

Mr. Markette was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Mr. Markette was predeceased by his parents and an infant son, Hillary Mizell Markette.  He leaves behind a wife, Hilda Mizell Markette, of Ambrose, GA; a son, Hilton Emory Markette, wife Henrietta (Beasley) Markette, of Waycross, GA; a daughter, Heidi McNatt, husband William Butler McNatt, of Larkspur, CO.

Four grandchildren:  Hilton Emory Markette II, wife Christy (Dixon), of Waycross, GA; Hayden Augustus Markette, wife Emily (Kimble) of Atlanta, GA; Alyssa Kaitlyn McNatt Gatrell, husband Cyrus Beau Gatrell, of Provo, UT; and Hayleigh Brielle McNatt, of Larkspur, CO.  

Three great-grandchildren:  Logan Alexis , Colton Emory, and Jackson Allen Markette of Waycross, GA. 

Memorial services will be held on Monday July 9, 2018 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family will recieve friends Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Sims Funeral Home.
