Gary Merritt

Gary Merritt, age 57, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Merritt was born on January 11, 1958, in Broxton, GA to the late Myrtle Merritt. Survivors include: his wife, Tonnie Merritt of Douglas, GA; two sons, Gary Dewayne (Amy) Merritt of Douglas, GA and Jerry (Kendra) Merritt of Douglas, GA; six grandchildren, Mitchell (Amber) Adams of Douglas, GA, Jessica Adams of Douglas, GA, Kelsie (Jeff) Merritt of Thomasville, GA, Jordan (Danielle) Merritt of Douglas, GA, Kylee Merritt of Douglas, GA, and Gunner Merritt of Douglas, GA; four great grandchildren, Zachery Windham, Emma Adams, Morgan Adams, and Delilah Adams; stepfather and stepmother, Dobbie and Carolyn Bennett of Douglas, GA; brother, Billy (Brenda) Merritt of Douglas, GA; five sisters, Kathy (Van) Carter of Douglas, GA, Marie (Mark) Holder of Douglas, GA, Peggy (Chapman) Matthew of Douglas, GA, Lurlyne (J.H.) Smith of Douglas, GA, and Tiny (Willis) Hutto of Douglas, GA; special aunt, Linda Merritt; and special friend, Jack Harper; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Arthur and Mattie Merritt, brothers, Daryl Bennett, Randy Stone, Milton Merritt, Jesse Merritt, Jr. Merritt, R.A. Merritt, and HL Merritt; sisters, Teresa Benton, Limmie Davis, and Lucille Cooper; and brother-in-law, Jonnie Chaney. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Saving Grace Ministries with Rev. Cliff Kirkland and Rev. Floyd Musgrove officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Church Cemetery. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
