Alton Harper, age 80, of Broxton, GA passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Harper was born on March 11, 1934 in Douglas, GA to the late Jesse James Harper and Sarah Hutto Harper.
Survivors include: his wife, Jo Ann Avant Young Harper of Broxton, GA; three sons, Alton Glenn Harper of Broxton, GA, Bryant (Sharon) Harper of Broxton, GA, and Jesse (Evelyn) Harper of Alexander City, AL; two daughters, Patty Lynn (Scott) Wills of Childersburg, AL and Ann Harper of Colorado Spring, CO; brother, Clyde (Tera) Harper of Broxton, GA; sister, Tempa Knight of Broxton, GA; eleven grandchildren; eighteen grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Broxton Church of God with Rev. Milton Pate and Rev. Carlton Ring officiating. Music is furnished for the service by Marlon Smith "Go Rest High On That Mountain", Sharon Harper "Daddy's Hands", and Clyde Harper "I've Never Been This Homesick Before" with Verneal Grantham playing the piano. Active Pallbearers are: Daniel Harper, Wade Wills, Wayne Smith, Brent Rucker, Michael Harper, George Harper, Dewayne Harper, and James Roland Harper. Honorary Pallbearers are: Doyle Wooten, Wayne Nall, Doug Cooper, Clay Chaney, Dennis Craft, and Hubert Smith. Interment followed at Broxton Church of God Cemetery. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
